“Agojie”

The Agojie was an all women Military Regiment for the Dahomey Kingdom, known today as Benin, West Africa. The Agojie were in existence from the 17th century up until the 19th century. To the rest of the world they were known as the Dahomey Amazons. They were the only female army in history. The Agojie were known to be superior warriors than their male counterparts.
